DLC for the game Castlevania Lords of Shadow a big mistake

Downloadable content. You love it right? It usually extends your enjoyment of that cool game you forked out 55  bucks for and adds to the story and character of it all. Am I right? Not this time. Remember the Castlevania game Lords of Shadow? Sure, it was a pretty well received success in spite of past Castlevania game titles in 3D, that one finally out shined ones like Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. However one thing Konami game headquarters didn't count on was that particular Castlevania game was going to make customers want some downloadable content to add to it. So they ended up doing a rush job after the fact to make up for it. And in spite of it adding to the story telling it was a bit of a let down. Here is what  Dave Cox of Konami game development had to say in regards to this:

"The problem was that the game’s success caught everyone  by surprise. It caught senior management by surprise and they wanted us  to do DLC…We never planned to do DLC, so we ended up doing DLC after the  fact and in hindsight that was a mistake. It was rushed. We had to rush  it to market.
I think we enriched the story that we wanted to tell, but I think if  we were going to do DLC again it would have to be planned right from the  get go. And it wouldn’t be something that would try to build upon an  ending—it would be something that’s perhaps a side story that enriches  the original story. If we were going to do DLC again it would be  something much more carefully considered." Dave Cox ended up with this statement as well:

"Instead of giving players a part of the story and giving them the other  part as DLC, I think the DLC has to expand the universe of an already  whole product."

So there you have it, I have hopes however that Konami game development has learned from this issue and we should expect to see any future DLC for the next Castlevania game done beforehand and better prepared. You can check out the full story such by heading to the source page at GameRanx. What do you think about all of this so far?
